How to Prepare Your Home for an In Home Newborn Photoshoot

September 12, 2026

If the thought of having a photographer come into your home with a brand-new baby makes you want to start cleaning every room, take a breath.

You do not need a perfectly tidy home for your newborn photoshoot.

You just brought a baby home. Your days are full of feeding, naps, laundry, visitors, and trying to remember when you last drank your coffee. The last thing I want is for you to spend those precious days worrying about whether your house is “photo ready.”

That is part of what makes an in home newborn photoshoot so lovely.

You get to stay home. I take care of the rest.

I Come To Your For An In Home Newborn Photoshoot

As a Seattle in-home newborn photographer, I bring the session to your home so you don’t have to pack up your baby, your diaper bag, extra clothes, bottles, blankets, and everything else that seems to multiply overnight.

Your baby gets to stay in their own space.

You get to stay comfortable.

And we get to photograph this little chapter exactly where it is happening.

Your home doesn’t need to be enormous or magazine-perfect. I am looking for the spaces with the prettiest natural light and the most meaningful little details.

Sometimes that is your bedroom.

Sometimes it is the nursery.

Sometimes it is a cozy corner of the living room.

We don’t need the whole house.

I’ll Help You Find the Best Light at Home

One of the benefits of hiring a professional photographer is that you don’t have to know what will photograph well.

When I arrive, I’ll take a look around your home and find the pockets of beautiful natural light.

I’ll help decide where we should photograph you, your baby, your partner, and your older children.

I’ll guide you through posing when you need it, but I also love allowing things to unfold naturally. A sleepy baby tucked against your chest. Your toddler climbing into bed beside you. Dad rocking the baby near the nursery window.

Those ordinary moments often become the photographs you treasure most.

You Don’t Need to Clean Everything

Please don’t spend the morning before your session deep-cleaning your house.

If there is anything I need moved, I’ll help you figure it out.

Generally, we may simply clear a few distracting items from the areas we’ll photograph, such as cords, laundry baskets, chargers, or anything particularly bright.

That’s it.

You don’t need to reorganize your closets.

You don’t need to clean rooms we’re never going to use.

And you certainly don’t need to make your home look like someone else’s home on Pinterest.

Your home is part of your baby’s story.

I’ll Bring the Details for You

Your newborn session is designed to feel calm and effortless.

Before your session, I’ll send you thoughtful preparation guidance so you know exactly what to expect. For newborn sessions, I also provide professional makeup artistry so you can feel a little more like yourself during a season when most of your attention is understandably going toward your baby.

You can also borrow from my curated, size-inclusive client closet for mom, so you don’t have to worry about finding the perfect outfit.

The goal isn’t to create a picture-perfect version of motherhood.

It’s to give you photographs that let you remember how this season actually felt.

Your Home Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect

I think there is something especially beautiful about photographing a newborn at home.

The crib you’ve been waiting to fill.

The morning light coming through your bedroom window.

Your favorite chair where you’ve spent countless hours feeding and cuddling your baby.

The little nursery you’ve dreamed about.

The slightly chaotic living room.

All of it belongs to this moment.

And one day, your baby will be much bigger. The house will change. The nursery will become a playroom. The tiny clothes will disappear into storage.

But you’ll still have these photographs.

You don’t need to prepare your home for me.

You simply need to be home with your baby.

I’ll bring the camera, find the light, guide you through the experience, and create beautiful photographs you can hold in your hands and live with on your walls.

Because your newborn’s first days deserve more than a folder of forgotten files.

They deserve to become part of your home, too.
