In-Home Newborn Photographer in Redmond, Washington

September 21, 2026

There is something incredibly special about photographing a newborn in the place where their story is beginning. As an in-home newborn photographer in Redmond, Washington, I love documenting those first quiet days in the home a family has carefully created for their new baby.

For this Redmond newborn photography session, I visited a beautiful second-story apartment where new parents had thoughtfully designed a nursery for their little one. The nursery, along with the family’s living spaces, became part of the story we were documenting.

An In-Home Newborn Photography Session in Redmond

One of the things I love most about in-home newborn photography is that your home becomes part of your family’s history.

There is no need to pack up your newborn and travel to a studio. Instead, I come to you and photograph your family in the spaces where you are already comfortable. We can capture sleepy cuddles in your bedroom, tiny details in the nursery, and the everyday moments that make this particular season of your life so meaningful.

For this Redmond family, their nursery was especially important. The parents had designed the room themselves, choosing the colors, furnishings, and little details with their new baby in mind. Photographing those details alongside their newborn created a gallery that tells more than the story of a baby’s arrival. It tells the story of the home they created for them.

Seattle Maternity Photographer Headshot

About Me

Hi, I’m Mercae, the Seattle-based photographer behind Lilac & Ivy Photography. I create grandmillennial inspired and east coast influenced maternity and newborn portraits for nostalgic Seattle mothers who love the beautiful historic architecture of Seattle and vintage-inspired styling as much as I do.
I specialize in studio maternity and in home newborn sessions because you shouldn’t have to make the Herculean effort to drive for hours, pray for sunshine, hike into the mountains, or be forced to cancel for rain. Once you inquire, I’ll send you over a welcome guide and a link to schedule a phone call to plan our session and answer any lingering questions!

Newborn Photography with 35mm Film

Alongside digital photography, I also used 35mm film during this in-home newborn session. I shoot with a Nikon FG 35mm camera and Portra 400 film, which lended the session a slow but intentional pace that only film provides. I love to use film for newborn photos because it brings a beautiful sense of nostalgia and intention. Its natural grain, gentle tones, and organic imperfections have a way of making photographs feel as though they could belong in a family album decades from now.

I love combining digital photography with 35mm film because each medium brings something different to the final gallery. Digital allows me to document all of the fleeting details with flexibility, while film adds that unmistakable heirloom quality. Both should be so well woven together that you cannot tell what was photographed with film and what wasn’t. I think this is what a mark of a good photographer is.

For families who love a timeless, nostalgic aesthetic, 35mm film can be a beautiful addition to an in-home newborn photography session in Redmond.

Your Home Becomes Part of the Story

Your home does not need to be perfect for newborn photos. This family had a kitchen with bottles, accessories, and all kinds of things out. It didn’t phase us or change the way I photographed things. We moved pieces of furniture as needed to access the best window light. We photographed in their bedroom and used the large windows there for emotional and connected pieces.

An in home session means we focus on the important things in your home. The nursery you spent months planning. The bedroom where you spent those early mornings feeding your baby. The couch where you will eventually read bedtime stories. These ordinary spaces become incredibly meaningful when viewed through the lens of family history.

That is why I approach in-home newborn photography in Redmond with an emphasis on connection, gentle direction, and the details that make your family unique.

Years from now, your baby may not remember this apartment or the nursery you designed for them. But you will have photographs that bring you back to this exact chapter.

Redmond Newborn Photography for Families Who Love Heirlooms

As a Seattle-area maternity and newborn photographer, I believe these photographs deserve more than a place on your phone.

Your newborn’s first days are fleeting. Printed photographs, albums, and framed artwork give those memories a physical place in your home.

For families in Redmond, Bellevue, Seattle, and surrounding Eastside communities, I offer private in-home newborn photography sessions created around your family and your home.

Because someday, the nursery will change.

Your baby will grow.

And these photographs will be some of the things that remain.
