Studio Maternity Photoshoot in Seattle, WA

There is something especially tender about photographing a woman on the edge of becoming a mother. The waiting. The wondering. The quiet strength that settles in during pregnancy.

Recently, I had the joy of photographing Abby of Baby Got Backup at Hygge Studio Seattle, one of my favorite studio rentals in Seattle. Tucked into Pioneer Square, the space feels soft and calm in a way that immediately invites people to exhale. Creamy natural light spills through the windows, old brick and warm wood tones add texture, and everything about it feels intentionally peaceful. For maternity portraits, that atmosphere matters deeply.

Abby works with families during one of the most vulnerable seasons of life through postpartum doula support and gentle sleep counseling. Her entire approach is rooted in care, attachment, and helping parents feel less alone during early motherhood. Spending time with her, it was easy to see why families trust her so deeply. She has this grounded, calming presence that immediately puts people at ease.

As a Seattle maternity photographer, I’m always thinking about how to create photographs that feel timeless rather than overly trendy. I want mothers to look back at their images years from now and still feel something real. Hygge Studio was the perfect setting for that vision. The softness of the light paired beautifully with Abby’s elegant styling and natural warmth.

One thing I loved most about this session was how unhurried it felt. No battling Seattle traffic to get out to a remote mountain location while heavily pregnant. No cold wind. No crowded park with strangers watching. Just a quiet, beautiful studio space where Abby could settle into the moment and truly enjoy being photographed.

That’s honestly one of the reasons I love studio maternity sessions so much for expecting mothers in Seattle. Pregnancy already asks so much of your body. Having a comfortable, private environment changes everything. It allows space for softness and connection instead of stress and overstimulation.

We leaned into movement throughout the session, letting fabrics drape naturally and focusing on gentle posing that felt organic rather than stiff. Some of my favorite images came from the in-between moments. The small smiles. The reflective pauses. The way Abby instinctively held her belly with this mixture of awe and protectiveness that every mother recognizes.

Sessions like this remind me why I care so deeply about printed artwork too. These photographs deserve to exist beyond a screen. They deserve to live framed in a nursery hallway, tucked inside heirloom albums, or passed down someday to the child who was once waiting quietly beneath their mother’s heartbeat.

If you’re currently expecting and looking for postpartum or infant sleep support in Seattle, I genuinely recommend exploring Abby’s work through Baby Got Backup. And if you’re dreaming of maternity portraits that feel calm, elegant, and deeply personal, Hygge Studio Seattle continues to be one of the loveliest spaces in the city for creating that kind of magic.
