Seattle fall family photography is synonymous with Washington Park Arboretum – it’s the perfect spot for locals to get gorgeous portraits with all the colors of autumn. The paths are well made, and usually feature only a few large puddles. There’s a huge variety of flora there that changes color in the fall, it’s hard to pick a bad spot in the stunning park.
What I think makes Washington Park Arboretum the best is that there is no “maze” that escapee little ones can run and hide in (side eye to a certain Seattle Japanese garden that is popular for fall.) It’s perfect for parents of all ages of children. I really appreciate how accessible the park is for wheelchair users as well, the park has it’s own parking lot with wheelchair access. This makes it the perfect option for many different families and their unique needs.
I highly recommend doing your session in October and not waiting until November, as a large majority of the colorful magic will be gone by then. Seattle air really gets cold and miserable after October, so again I urge you to dress your littles very warmly if you plan a November shoot (wool socks, putting a dress over a sweater, adding aesthetic mittens, and making sure scarves are included in the wardrobe.)
This type of photoshoot is perfect for getting photos for your Christmas cards – but you’ll want to book on time! Getting your portraits done in October guarantees you’ll have your portraits edited and back well before it’s time to print. It usually takes me about 2 weeks to edit a session, so you’ll want to keep that in mind before scheduling your photoshoot.
